The core functionality of a pressure balanced mixer valve is derived from a left and right knob. These two knobs can be turned in order to control the flow rate of the water in your plumbing system. Turning clockwise brings out cold water and turning the opposite direction will supply you with warm water. Still, there are some maintenance steps that you’ll likely want to get into the habit of practicing.

1. Cleaning the Filter – In order to clean the filter, you need to close off the supply valve before disconnecting the mixer. Once you’ve dismounted the cartridge inside of the valve you can pull out the filters from the o-ring attachment that holds them in place. From here you can simply wash and clean your filters before replacing them. Get into the habit of taking care of your filters and your system will be effective for a longer period of time.
2. General Inspections & Regular Cleaning – Get into the habit of checking your thermostatic mixer function every once in a while. Make sure that the water flow is consistent and your temperature shifts are as safe and subtle as they should be. Watch out for pressure drops as they can be indicative of a larger problem. You’ll want to get into the habit of regularly cleaning all of the interior components of your system after shutting off the main supply.
3. Replacing Your Cartridge – Turn off your primary supply valve before taking off the centre cap and screw that holds the temperature knob in place. Yank the knob out and set it aside. From here you’ll see a guidance ring which you can also pull off. Now you have access to the branded cartridge that helps your system operate. Always replace cartridges with manufacturer suggested products.
